Hawa Mahal

Situated at Badi Choupad, Pink City of Jaipur, Hawa Mahal also known as The Palace of the Wind was Completed in 1799. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it's one of India's most recognizable buildings and a popular tourist attraction. Built from red and pink sandstone, it has 953 windows on the outside walls called Jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework. The honeycomb-shaped and beautifully carved windows were originally built with the intent that the lattice design would allow royal ladies to observe everyday life and festivals celebrated in the street below without being seen. This architectural feature also allowed cool air from the Venturi effect to pass through the palace making it a perfect summer palace. It was built as an extension to the City Palace, people who see the Hawa Mahal from the street view think it is the front of the palace, but it is the back

The government of Rajasthan's archaeological department cares for and oversees the Hawa Mahal.

After a long hiatus of 50 years, the Hawa Mahal underwent renovations in 2006 to give the monument a facelift for an estimated cost of Rs 4.568 million. The corporate sector contributed to the preservation of Jaipur's historical landmarks, and the Unit Trust of India has taken on the maintenance of the Hawa Mahal. The Hawa Mahal is an extended part of The Royal City Palace. The arched roofs, narrow casements, and stone-carved screens are some of the characteristics of this well-known tourist destination. The monument also contains hanging cornices that have been artistically modelled.
