New Delhi

A symbol of the country's rich past and thriving present, Delhi is a city where ancient and modern blend seamlessly together. The capital city which is considered the heart of India, has a lot to offer. Delhi is the center of education, politics, tourism, health, fashion, transport, and a thriving business hub. It is the second most populous city after Mumbai in India.

Just a century ago, the British moved the seat of their empire from Kolkata to Delhi. And it has been the Capital of India ever since. With a history that goes back many centuries, Delhi showcases an ancient culture and a rapidly modernizing country. Dotted with monuments there is much to discover here. The seat of many powerful empires in the past, its long history can be traced in its many carefully preserved monuments, ancient forts, and tombs. Delhi is very much a history's child. The story of the city is as old as the epic Mahabharata when the town was known as Indraprastha, where Pandavas used to live. Many empires rose to the heights of their power and were destroyed here. Among the prominent dynasties that made Delhi their capital were the Tughlaqs, the Khiljis, and the Mughals.

Even today, one can have a fascinating glimpse into the past in Old Delhi, with its labyrinth of narrow lanes, old havelis, and colorful bazaars. Rickshaws wind their way through this crowded, bustling capital of the Mughals, where life continues, much as it did hundreds of years ago. It is home to three World Heritage monuments—Qutub Minar, Red Fort, and Humayun's Tomb that have survived many centuries, and give an idea of architectural wonders created by emperors in the past. Central Delhi, with its tree-lined avenues, imposing structures, and buildings such as the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, and India Gate, reflect Delhi's colonial past. Several museums provide a glimpse into the country's fascinating history. Delhi is not just a relic of the past, it's a modern marvel that's constantly reinventing itself. Among its modern marvels, the city boasts of the Central Vista on Kartavya path, Yashobhoomi convention center, and Bharat Mandapam where the first G20 summit was held in India.

Delhi has a modern, well-planned, and extensive Metro network that connects all corners of the city; this network is still growing. The Airport Metro Express, which takes one to the railway station in the heart of the city, in just 17 minutes, provides easy connectivity for visitors. Whether you are traveling to Old Delhi, Connaught Place, or Dilli Haat, the metro provides an easy way of getting around the city. Several national highways converge on Delhi, the latest of which is the Delhi- Mumbai highway, and several railway lines also meet here, linking the city with all parts of the country. Delhi is an important air terminus in Northern India for both international and domestic services. Indira Gandhi International Airport, located in the southwestern part of the city, handles international flights and provides visitors with their first experience of a modern, world-class city that is keeping pace with the best in the world.
